Bad Blog Writer, Bad!

Holy crow, guys... I owe you an apology like no other.

I have since relocated over to WordPress for The BBL related activities. I'm not sure I will keep this one. I will try to but this is my list of current on-going things and maybe you will see why something has to be let go:

  1. Class with Full Sail University -- I am in the last stretch of classes with Full Sail. Just finished up Creative Writing Portfolio I and am heading in part 2 of the series, Creative Writing Portfolio II, on this coming Monday. After that, once I have been given the go ahead to graduate pending the final class, The Business of Creative Writing, my time at Full Sail University is done. This will open a bit of time while I spend some time looking for work/internships/etc.
  2. GEEKSMASH.COM -- This is my new activity. I am officially a contributor, unpaid but still a contributor, with GeekSmash.Com. I will be covering anime and manga reviews and news/reviews out of the gaming industry, including the YouTube Let's Play community. I will be putting out at least one article every week - two weeks. So stay tuned for that@
  3. Of course, The Black Blood Legacies and the related things -- Of course, this is on the list. I finished up draft one of part 2 of the series and it is now sitting in line waiting for its turn to face the editing process. So, no new writing on the series for a bit. I need to iron out somethings with part 3 once part 2 goes up. I am also writing blogs (like this and over on WordPress) and tweeting and facebooking as I am trying to promote Fate's Crossing. So this is taking up some time as well.
  4. Day to day life -- This is a large struggle right now. Things are getting better day by day but it is still hard. Appointments, dogs, trying to get my driver's license, finding a job after graduation -- it is just a mess. So... yup....
I am busy, busy, busy. Odds are you will find more about what is going on over at J.R. Smith's novel/script writing journey So... I will see if my schedule will allow me to pop in over here at Blogger but if not... check me out over on WordPress. See y'all then!

Fate's Crossing by JR Smith Book Trailer

Hi guys! This is the book trailer for my debut novel and the first part of my first series, Fate's Crossing( The Black Blood Legacies #1). It was created by my lovely editor and the owner of my publishing house, Linkville Press.

(Pst - check out their site, http://www.linkvillepress.wix.com/home ! We have many other styles of books by many authors! My current favorite has to be K.R. Morrison with Be Not Afraid. I suggest you check it out! :) You can also find LP on Facebook and Twitter. http://www.twitter.com/LinkvillePress on Twitter and http://www.facebook.com/linkvillepress )

My spotlight on Noree Cosper's blog!

Hi guys!
I had a momentary spotlight on the blog of Ms. Noree Cosper. Yes, it is a paranormal blog. The Black Blood Legacies isn't considered to be paranormal enough to put it into that genre.

However, because of the fact there are some kind of paranormal/extraordinary elements within it, the kind Noree went ahead and put it in a spotlight.

I personally think Noree was just trying to help a newbie author out a bit. (If so, thanks so much!)

You can find it at Noree's blog --> http://noreecosper.blogspot.com/2015/01/paranormal-author-feature-jeri-smith.html

Thanks guys and I will link to other spotlights, reviews, etc. as they come!

Till next time -

Spotlights, Reviews & Exposure

I have to admit the 'getting exposure' piece of this journey hasn't been the easiest.

I am broke, essentially and almost all the time. We barely make ends meet. So, advertising etc. has to be done on a 'free' or 'exchange' basis.

Which is the most difficult type of exposure to get let me tell ya.

So far, I have a few things lined up. A few blogs/Facebook pages doing a spotlight post, a few people saying they'll do a review of Fate's Crossing, and what not. When they start cropping up, I'll link to them. Which tomorrow is the first one up by Ms. Noree Cosper. I'll link to that.

So, it looks like things may be picking up in this department. Here's hoping!

At any rate, it has been a crappy day. My LG G2 bit the dust today (literally) so I am out of a phone for 72 hour while Verizon sends me a new phone. My Limited Edition Retro Style 3DS took some damage, granted it still works but I'd like to fix it.

Thank the good Lord I got my homework for week 2 all done. Next thing? Keep working on my re-do pile of assignments to match my portfolio work up to my thesis script.... oy vey...

Have a great day!~

The Midnight Trial is in beta!

Part 2, The Midnight Trial, is in beta stage now! Yay! And in a fraction of the time that Fate's Crossing took, haha! To celebrate that, I want to explain something that I am going to do for the second part of The Black Blood Legacies Series.

As a part of my studies at Full Sail University, I have had to develop a thesis script of some kind. I chose to do a feature film and I placed it as a prequel to the series. There were details that were created as a result that carried into The Midnight Trial. A couple of my betas have already caught these details and started asking questions.

So before I send it off for official editing, I will be adding a special section to book 2. A section of journal entries based upon my film script. :) Hopefully this will answer any and all questions that emerge from the readers regarding details that came to life as a result of my studies. Hehe!

Here is a longer snippet from book 2, The Midnight Trial:

The wreck took it out of me worse than I had realized at the time. Adrenaline, it’s a damn powerful thing. Raising a hand up, I went to touch his nose. His hand shot up and grabbed mine as one eye creaked open a crack and a beautiful smirk crossed his face.

“Ah, sabotaging my rest huh?” I couldn’t help but laugh a little bit.

“I was just going to wake you up and see if you knew where we could eat.” It was in this moment my stomach made one hell of a noise, sending Sean into a fit of laughter. “Not funny kind sir. I’m starving.” And he started laughing even harder.

“The look on your face when your stomach spoke up!” He buried his face into a pillow, his body shaking with laughter. It was all I could do to lay there with my jaw agape. I poked him in the ribs.

“Seriously dude. Come on. Food.” I whimpered. Being as smart as he was, he started gathering his composure.

“Okay. Okay. I’d be awful as your guardian if I didn’t make sure you were fed. Get up and get dressed. We’ll meet everyone down stairs in the conference room.” He pushed himself off the bed as he spoke. Conference room?

“By the way, where the hell are we?” I scratched my head as I sat up. He looked like he didn’t want to tell me but the look in his eyes told me he knew better than to keep quiet.

“We are in the Order compound outside of Quebec.” Quebec? That is hell and gone from where we were.

“Just how long was I asleep?” He started whistling as he exited the room into the bathroom.

“Damn it Sean! Tell me!” He started cackling again.

“You are so easy to annoy and so adorable I can’t help myself, love. You were out for almost two days. That’s how we got here without you realizing it. That wreck hit you and hit you hard. Adrenaline – “

“It’s a hell of a thing.” I finished his statement.

“Yup! Dressed. You got ten minutes.” He all but commanded me. I mock saluted him without him seeing. Ai aye Captain! Sean exited the room and I sighed. I’ve got to separate myself from him. But he won’t be easy to ditch… Even though he was determined to make this situation work, I wasn’t. I knew it was for the best. I wouldn’t put him through that. In fact, I had a plan to sacrifice myself at The Temple without having to have him intervene. Slowly, I drug myself out of the big, comfortable four-poster bed. Wincing, I stretched out my limbs one by one. Two days asleep tends to cause the muscles to tense up.

You are getting too used to these ‘naps’.

Roslyn’s voice snarked from the back corner of my mind and all I could do was grimace internally at her. I could almost imagine her sticking her tongue out at me like a little kid. But she was right. As I dug my clothes out of my bag, my mind drifted. How much have I actually missed during these little sabbaticals? Shuffling through my bag for a heavier, long-sleeved shirt and jeans, I heard voices outside my door. Unable to fight the curiousness anymore, I stepped forward and pressed my ear to the cold, hard Oak door.

“You need to tell her what all has happened… And the truth.” A soft female voice demanded. A male cleared his throat and the sound of shuffling feet made its way to my ears.

“I don’t want to frighten her any more than need be. She is going through enough.” The voice cut through to my heart. I knew it all too well. Sean knew something about my most recent incident. And there was something else he didn’t want to tell me. My heart sank. Fine. If he doesn’t believe I am strong enough to handle it, I am out of here.

Yep. A longer snippet. I thought it would be an interesting piece. Formatting had to be fixed to look right on the blog. Ugh.

Hehe. I am just so proud to already have book 2 into beta stage. Could a release date be available by the end of the year? We shall see!

A shameless plug is a shameless plug

In the precise moment that she stepped on a plane from Tulsa, OK to Los Angeles, CA, Liana Scotts race against her own fate began. Bombarded with disembodied voices, lucid dreams and waking visions, Liana, 24, finds herself feeling like she is losing her mind. When she crosses paths with Sean Stevens, 26, and is put under his protection, her reality swiftly changes from civilian to the next possible martyr. Sponsored by her friends and family and seemingly reliving a past not her own, she must fulfill an ancient prophecy and go on a worldly journey in order to see it through. First, Sean and his fellow members of The Order Faction must make sure she is ready for the task ahead. Preparing the Valten and keeping her safe is only phase one of a three-part tale. Only one thing has the ability to condemn this mission to failure: the ultimate star-crossed love.

J.R. - Out!

Welcome to the beginning!

Hi all! And welcome!

This is a post that has been in the making for QUITE a while.

In May 2014, a dream I have had since I was little came to be my reality. A book series that I had been working on since October 2008 was accepted for publishing by Linkville Press after a chance opportunity presented to me through the school that I am attending, Full Sail University.
The Black Blood Legacies finally was seen for its potential.

Fast forward to November 2014. The first part of the series, Fate's Crossing, became officially available on November 8, 2014. :)

The posts to follow in this blog are a part of that journey. Promotion posts, snippets from each part as each journeys to published status, and more of my journey as a published author. And perhaps just some sheer nutty randomness as I need to expel some random energy. Hah!

So sit back and relax and enjoy what is to come!
